A Hippie move in Zipolite
Oaxaca is a region of Mexico with multiple aspects. The capital Oaxca de Juarez has an intense and dynamic cultural life. Monte Alban is a major archeological ruin from precolombian era (Zapotec civilization). There are a couple of execptional comunitary based tourism projects such as Pueblos Mancomunados. In short, difficult to get borded in Oaxaca and we are far away of having visited everything. For example, villages specialized in handicrafts and especially weaving are everywhere. They all have a specific technic. You should see the pieces of art. That’s awesome!
But we decide to head to the coastline: Zipolite and Mazunte. Ela has never been to Pacific Ocean and she never swam in it neither. It definietely worth a detour (well, 6h route from Oaxaca, endless curves + nausea, a 3000m peak and even a small village specialized in magic mushroom on the way… are you thinking about “adventure”?).
But we are right because what we find is just stunning. Zipolite is THE mexican naturist beach; everything surrounded by a Hippie atmosphere and a stupefying nature.
Naturist and Hippie? In Zipolite, we are not that far away
Hippie move appeared in the 60s in United States and spread everywhere in the world after all. Mainly guided by a non-acceptance of authority but also for keeping distance to the growing society of consumption, many people started to travel the world looking for themselves, for new experiences (and now, are you thinking about psychedelic?) and finally for a peaceful place. Indeed, strong defenders of peace & love, they’e always extoled for non violence.
Today, it is not rare to meet some elderly couple (single as well of course), descendant of this hippie move… they found their paradise and live quietly closer to the nature and as far as possible from a stressful life. In that game, Zipolite was for sur a perfect candidate few decades in the past.
Simply a paradise beach pleasant to live
And morover naturist.
What ? really ? That famous beach is a naturist beach ? Yep. By the way, do you know from where comes from naturism ?
We’ve made a small research because in this paradise, surrounded by lush forests and birds singing early in the morning and while the sunset, we have to admit that time is flowing slowly. Except taking a refreshing bath, one has enough time to redo the world…. Zipolite is magic, isn’t it?
Naturism in the current meaning appeared in the beginning of XXth century and describes an approach going to nudism or vegetarism. The International Naturist Federation (Agde, France, 1974) defined naturism as a way of life in harmony with nature characterised by the practice of communal nudity with the intention of encouraging self-respect, respect for others and for the environment.
But let’s open the reflexion a bit more with this reflexion from naturistphilosopher.wordpress.com
“Just to be clear about this: Naturism, nudism, and social nudity are not about imposing beliefs on the rest of society. It’s quite unlikely that any modern human society will come to accept nudity in everyday social life in the foreseeable future. The point, instead, is that people who learn to enjoy social nudity are able to enjoy benefits, including body acceptance, that are unavailable to most people in their societies. “

We are Ela & David, 2 citizens of the world. In quest of a new way of living, more respectful from the environment and the Humans, we travel slowly to discover new cultures, to look for inspirations and with a wish of sharing. Wants to know more?
